Automatic Semi-regular Mesh Construction from Adaptive Distance Fields
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes a method to construct semi-regular meshes for a surface S de ned by the zero set of a trivariate function F(x,y,z), representing a distance eld de nition of S. An adaptive distance eld (ADF) de nition of S is obtained by constructing, adaptively, an octree decomposition of F's domain. The vertices of the octree-based de nition of S lie either on the positive or negative side of S (or on S). Octree cells that are intersected by S are identi ed, and the faces of these cells that lie on the outside of S are projected onto S. The result is a quadrilateral mesh to which various procedures are applied that lead to an improved mesh containing a much smaller number of extraordinary vertices, i.e., non-valence-four vertices.

Virtual Clay Modeling Using Adaptive Distance Fields
This paper describes an approach for the parametrization and modeling of objects represented by adaptive distance fields (ADFs). ADFs support the construction of powerful solid modeling tools. They can represent surfaces of arbitrary and even changing topology, while providing a more intuitive user interface than control-point based structures such as B-splines. Using the octree structure, an a...
متن کاملOptimal Hierarchical Adaptive Mesh Construction Using FCO Sampling
This paper introduces an optimal hierarchical adaptive mesh construction algorithm using the Face-Centered Orthorhombic lattice (FCO) sampling which is a natural extension of the quincunx lattice to the 3-dimensional case. A scheme for construction of adaptive meshes is presented. Initially, a highly detailed and densely sampled regular mesh is obtained from geometry scanning or from a non opti...
متن کاملSemi-Regular 3D Mesh Progressive Compression and Transmission based on an Adaptive Wavelet Decomposition
We introduce a new patch-based multi-resolution analysis of semi-regular mesh surfaces. This analysis brings patch-specific wavelet decomposition, quantization and encoding to the mesh compression process. Our underlying mesh partitioning relies on surface roughness (based on frequency magnitude variations), in order to produce patches, representative of semantic attributes of the object. With ...
متن کاملA Fast Level Set Method with Particle Correction on Adaptive Cartesian Grid
The level set method, devised by Osher and Sethian in 1988, is a powerful approach for tracking moving interfaces and widely used in physics, fluid mechanics, chemistry, combustion, material science, image processing etc. During the past two decades, the level set method has been under significant development. Techniques of solving the level set equation, including high-order essentially non-os...
متن کاملA mesh generation procedure to simulate bimaterials
It is difficult to develop an algorithm which is able to generate the appropriate mesh around the interfaces in bimaterials. In this study, a corresponding algorithm is proposed for this class of unified structures made from different materials with arbitrary shapes. The non-uniform mesh is generated adaptively based on advancing front technique available in Abaqus software. Implementing severa...
